How old should you be before teaching soldering?

Hello All,
I'm plugging away building the podcasts for Ohmwork and the group is having a discussion about soldering age, especially the fact that we will be presenting this topic over a Video Podcast. Ohmwork's target age for student podcasts is Middle School, ages 11 through 13, and like movies and video games, we will start the Podcast with an age rating system. We like the idea of the rating system because we have some projects that younger students can participate in and would like to advise Parents and Teachers that these projects are not exclusive for Middle Schoolers and Up. We are all in agreement that there should be a disclaimer and advise that parents and teachers need to be present when working with these tools. We also will require eye wear protection, a well-ventilated work area and suggest using Lead-free solder. Since we will be teaching over a podcast, should we recommend a Hot Soldering Iron or Cold Soldering Iron? I've worked with both and honestly believe we should teach them to work with the proper tools if they pursue a career in STEM fields and Cold Soldering Irons, though great idea on paper, don't solder well and break easily. Does anyone have any thoughts about this topic?
Thanks
-Ed
