Fantastic news, Anthony, that you are already getting things rolling even before the official grant begins. One caution we've shared with other grantees: U of California, which issues checks and reimbursements, frowns on expenses incurred to the g...
My relationship to the DML Competition is as team leader, along with David Theo Goldberg of UCHRI. I'm also writing a book on how we know the world, from infant synesthesia to digital learning and on to senility (really) and I'm happy to learn from everyone, including the amazing group of DML Competition winners. Count me in!

Hi Cathy! Nothing on Flickr yet, though I've posted an avatar shot on both the DML & HASTAC ning sites. I'll fish for more images from the guys working with Virtual Heroes and see what they've got, now that the game is further along.
I'm not sure if these comments are private or public, by the way, but, in any case, YES, for many of the projects marketing is very important and tricky for a non-profit that doesn't have enough resources to devote to getting the word out. In the next phase of this Winners' hub, we want to do more with having the groups use their own social networks to convey information and progress on analogous projects. And, we want this out there in the world because of the HASTAC/MacArthur conviction that social networking is a way for all of us to learn from one another. Specifically, we were VERY pleased that 15 of the 17 projects had representatives watching the Paul Bloom lecture and are pleased he has allowed us to make it public so others can learn. He's a well-known expert in this field.
Fantastic! I just reblogged your blog piece. CONGRATULATIONS!
And Gary and I are Facebook friends. Is he still part of your project? He's clearly big on social networking and one thing we're considering is telling our PI's that they might find someone on their team who is into social networking who can contribute actively to the winners' hub and work as a network node for the whole project team.
Cathy, You totally did get PLOrk right. Glad you're thinking about us. We just did Dan's new piece with the American Composer's Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, with the first 8 new speakers we're building on our MacArthur grant. Read what the New York Times said (and see a picture) here:
Thanks Cathy, I can't wait to really get started working on this grant and meet everyone. I sense that it will be a great experiences for everyone.
Take Care

Hi Cathy! You sometimes write on my Facebook Wall, so I thought I'd make my first comment here. I see that this supports embedded videos, so I am going to experiment with embedding a very short video -- less than a minute, I think -- of where I am setting right now:
